Building resilience for 2021 - hgkc and Metro Bank roundtable - 11th December
How do you keep your business going in a year like no other? This has obviously been a huge question for business owners in 2020, and in our latest roundtable we addressed some of the issues of business resilience along with co-hosts, Metro Bank.
Many companies will have seen a drop in trade during the pandemic and have had to adapt their plans in the short term. Customers have been reluctant to commit or delayed agreed projects. Even those who have experienced an increase in demand have gone through an unprecedented amount of change.
We discussed a range of concerns around these changes, including taking on (or losing) employees, and then managing their mental health and the practicalities of working from home. Ideas were shared on how to develop leaders remotely to improve performance and keep them in touch with their teams, to maintain valuable culture and connections.
Key to the future and survival of business was agreed to be planning – without a plan, neither your team or your leaders know what they are aiming for. That’s not to say the plan can’t change, and indeed, adaptability is also a fundamental element of resilience and sustainable growth.
In summary, the mantra of “Decide, Delegate and Deliver” was agreed to be a useful guide to overcome the immediate challenges and achieve sustainable growth.
