Friars Moor Veterinary Centre Win Best Place to Work Award

HGKC client Friars Moor Veterinary Centre has been recognised for its positive and nurturing work environment, after winning the Best Place to Work category at this year’s Blackmore Vale Media Awards.

Businesses of all shapes and sizes were celebrated at the awards ceremony, which was held on September 21st at the George Albert Hotel in Dorchester. Attendees were treated with a champagne reception and three-course dinner, before the talks and award presentations.

The annual awards celebrate the achievements of businesses in Wiltshire, Dorset and Somerset, recognising achievements in twelve categories. The Best Place to Work category was sponsored by Charterhouse Auctioneers and Valuers and the headline sponsor of the event was Dike and Son.

Emma Hallett, who submitted the application for the award, described Friars Moor as being “like one big happy family to me” in her article reflecting on the awards night.

Practice Manager Justine Turnbull added that there are few places that compare to Friars Moor, and the culture of the company is one of camaraderie and trust. “People are free to come up with new ideas and go with them,” she said, “the directors empower staff to make their own decisions and don’t stifle creativity. It’s a wonderful place to work and everybody is proud to work for Friars Moor.”

The Board of Directors value highly a positive working environment for all the Friars Moor team, and this is reflected by their staff, who all were proud and delighted to have won this award. Director Anthony Wilkinson said at a recent staff party,

“We value everybody within the team, and we look after all of them through their good times and not so good. Everyone cares about each other. Family is important. We care about each other’s families and the inevitable sacrifices that work imposes on them. The everyday dramas that happen to our families are our collective concern.”

High Growth Knowledge Company has worked alongside Friars Moor’s Directors for three years, supporting them as they developed their strategy and began a journey from being run by the business to taking control of their future for themselves.

We have helped them identify, plan and act on their ‘bold steps’, a series of strategic projects to help Friars Moor achieve the company’s vision, and to identify their core values, together with a performance support and feedback system designed to embed them.

We have also worked with them to build their reputation as experts in their respective disciplines, as well as their status as veterinary specialists. This included helping them to devise and launch the Dairy Sheep and Goat Consultancy, where Friars Moor vets work alongside farmers to build expertise and develop health strategies for their livestock. Launched in January 2016, the consultancy has hosted two highly successful conferences, attracting global interest from speakers, sponsors and clients alike. A third conference is due to be held in 2018, and the speaker programme has already been filled.

We are very excited to see where Friars Moor Veterinary Centre go from here, and are very proud to see them win such a prestigious and well-deserved award.
